CALYPSO - built by two like-minded engineers, passionate conservationists and hunters

The first CALYPSO prototype was manually machined at Alex’ workshop in 2013.

Alexander Oelofse

Spending his childhood growing up on an industrious game farm, Alex found innovative ways to repairing anything that could break, from pumps to gear boxes, radios and kitchen equipment. Not much unlike his father, the famous out-of-the-box thinker Jan Oelofse, finding original solutions to things where others would not even recognize a problem, Alex has always foreseen a potential for improving concepts. His obvious choice of career was to become a mechanical engineer, completing his degree at Stellenbosch University. But his passion for wildlife, outdoors and hunting is equalled for his interest in finding solutions to technical and mechanical conundrums, and the ultimate culmination of his talents and interests is the design of his own silencer. Alex built the first prototype in his own workshop.

Sven Patzner

Sven spent most of his childhood outdoors on farms, hunting to him is an indispensable part of his lifestyle. He first pursued an internship as a gun maker, but soon decided that his creative mind would be better applied to an engineering degree at Stellenbosch University, where he met his like-minded future business partner and friend, Alex. With the help of Sven’s entrepreneurial skills, the silencer was soon on the market and made available to benefit hunters in Namibia and South Africa.
